DOCUMENTING MARIPOSA
COUNTY's FIRES- SUMMER OF 2008 The Mariposa Museum/History Center is
inviting the community or anyone connected in any way to the recent
fires (firefighters, visitors who were in Mariposa /Yosemite at the
time, etc....) to document your story relating to these fires so
that they may be preserved for future researchers. Best, Carolyn
From
the Mariposa Museum/History Center:
With the recent Oliver and Telegraph
fires in Mariposa County, history has once again repeated itself and
Mariposa residents have
witnessed "history in the making."
Mariposa Museum would like to keep a written record of these two tragic
fires so that future generations will know of the tragedy and
losses that residents suffered as well as the outpouring of support and
help this tight knit community provided to those who needed it.
Mariposa Museum and History Center is asking for stories of heroism,
loss, support, as well as pictures or videos of the fire that we can
keep in our historical files. If you would like to contribute your
story to the Museum, you can do so by sending it to Mariposa Museum
&
History Center, P.O. Box 606, Mariposa, CA 95338. Or, you can email
your story to mmhc@sti.net
and place fire story in the subject line. Whether or not the fires directly
affected you, your stories are important to the history of Mariposa
County. Please contribute yours. Thank You

"Time
and accident are committing daily havoc on the originals
deposited
in our public offices... the lost cannot be recovered, but let us
save what remains; not by vaults and locks which fence them
from the public eye and use... but by such as multiplication of
copies,
as shall place them beyond the reach of
accident."
